I find it a bit easier to manage than online rubrics. I grab my stylus and a pen, along with a stack of rubrics and set to work. It's essentially just the wording from the IB Criteria re-ordered to make marking a bit easier. Rather, I use the rubric that our science department has created. Since these are labs for IB Chemistry, I don't use any task-specific rubrics. Not ideal, as I'd prefer last name - but you'll see in a bit why it really doesn't matter.

places the student name at the front of each filename, so I get them alphabetical by first name.

After checking for plagiarism, I download the entire class set of labs as a Zip file with individual labs in PDF form. Rather, it's about my process and some things I tried this spring to make my comments more meaningful.įocusing on the logistics of this workflow, it starts with students submitting their work to.

But this isn't about one particular PDF tool. This seems like a small thing, but for me it's been key to feeling like I'm being a bit more efficient. The most important feature, though, was differentiating between the stylus for writing and touch for moving the document around. There are quite a few choices, but I found Drawboard PDF had the features I wanted, such as easy access to favorite pens and the ability to highlight text. Thus I began searching for a good app for annotating PDFs. Last spring I was able to purchase a Surface Pro 3 as part of my PD budget. Yet I still feel like this is an area for more improvement.I've got a series of blog posts planned to share some ideas with you - and hopefully garner some discussion that will be helpful for me also! First I'd like to share the mechanics of how I provide feedback. Teaching IB Chemistry has really forced me to get better - and I have.

I found with masterpdfeditor I could select Thai script and paste it in Translate without it being corrupt, but it seems you have to register (trying to enter text it says you can’t in the free version) and that was too expensive for my tastes.įinally I managed to install sejda-desktop which is limited, but gave me the ability to copy text which pasted without corruption, also to enter text in PDF’s sent by Thai school… so it’s today’s winner for some basic PDF editing.Throughout my 21 previous years as a teacher, I have really struggled to provide meaningful (and timely!) feedback to my students on their lab reports. but I find that it sucks quite a bit in opening documents not created in Libre - I can edit inline, but the documents don’t display properly and when exported they’re corrupted (probably because they aren’t read properly).įrom chaotic-aur there is masterpdfeditor (older version 5.7.08-1) as the releases on their website is at 5.7.10 - it’s proprietory and seems a good alternative if you can’t run Adobe Acrobat. LIbreOffice is always listed as number 1.

Not only Chinese - I get PDF’s in Thai and have a hard time trying to copy/paste text into another document to edit, and Thai text doesn’t work (though I can type/paste it in there).
