Karen offers to pay Baker $10 million in cash if he takes Frank out on his boat, kills him, and feeds him to the sharks. Her new husband, Frank ( Jason Clarke), is physically abusive to both her and Patrick ( Rafael Sayegh), the son she had with Baker back when he went by his real name, John. Baker is content to try and catch the big fish every day until his ex-wife, Karen ( Anne Hathaway), strolls back into his life with a proposition. Even if you see the twist coming, you won’t believe that Knight actually went for, and it pays off for a film that’s far more memorable than a B-movie tale of sex and murder.īaker Dill ( Matthew McConaughey) is a fisherman living on the island of Plymouth where he’s always broke as he tries to catch a big tuna that consumes his every waking hour. What’s being sold as a sultry thriller is only what’s on the surface of a movie with an absolutely bonkers twist.

By the metric of what’s being sold and what the film actually is, I imagine most people will hate Steven Knight’s new movie, Serenity. Films with low CinemaScores tend to be where the marketing did not match up with the actual film, so something like Killing Them Softly, which is sold as an action film, gets an “F” because it’s actually about the decline of America and how in an economic crisis even hitmen can’t get paid. The movie ends with Matty/Mary Ann Simpson (Turner) on a beach in Kauai. When it comes to seeing movies, people like to know what they’re going into. Which means that it was the girl posing as Mary Ann Simpson and not Matty (Turner) whose body was burned to death. Also that Matty is the name of the girl posing as Mary Ann Simpson.

But after receiving a yearbook, Ned discovers that Matty's real name is Mary Ann Simpson, which was the name of the girl who looked a lot like Matty shown earlier in the movie. But everyone denies it because the dental records show up as Matty's. That night, Ned wakes up and starts to realise that Matty is somehow still alive. Ned is arrested and put in jail for the 'murder' of Matty and for possibly Edmund's murder. As Matty enters the boathouse, it explodes. When Ned sees Matty, he forces Matty to go into the boathouse where the glasses supposedly are and where Ned discovers a bomb that Matty may have placed. Matty later says to Ned that the maid stopped by Matty's place to drop off the glasses, but the man who helped Ned make the bomb tells Ned that he saw Matty and helped her make a bomb. When Ned asks Matty about the glasses, she says that the maid must have took them and she wants money if she is to return them. Ned also discovers that Edmund's glasses that he always wears were not at the crime scene and that someone was trying to call Ned the night of the murder which makes Ned a suspect. Ned then later learns that Matty had the will changed but since it was not valid, all of Edmund's money goes to her and not half to her and the other half to Edmund's sister, Roz.
